Establish a good oral hygiene routine at a young age. This is the first step towards healthy teeth.
- Start using a toothbrush when the first tooth emerges. Brush your child's teeth after every meal or snack.
- If your child is 'wiggly' - stand behind your child and give a big -gentle- bear hug. You will have better access to the child's mouth from behind than in front.
- Use a small amount of fluoride toothpaste, the size of the child’s little finger nail. Use a flouride-free toothpaste for children under four.
The National Center for Dental and Craniofacial Research has provided helpful information for care of children's teeth.
